Places to witness Snowfall near Kathmandu

Snowfall in Nepal is exceptionally a rare moment for people living in a lower altitude and Terai region. For many, winter is a charm and a magical time of the year to experience the white wonderland. Winter in Nepal starts from November and can last up to March, the snowfall starts around January and the season witnesses many travelers flocking around the mountains to play with the snow. __Chandragiri__

Chandragiri hills is 7km away from Thankot, a municipality at Chandragiri. It is easily accessible to an offroad drive or a 2-3 hour hike from the place. During the winter season there are many tourists luring in Kakani to witness and experience snowfall. 28 km away from Kathmandu valley, Kakani lies in Nuwakot district and is a perfect place for a short escape from the bustling city. Standing at an altitude of 2030m high, this place is rich in culture, vegetation, wildlife and scenic view. Where you can get glimpses of the mountains like Mt Ganesh, Mt gaurishankar, Mt Langtang and much more. It is also a popular destination for recreational activities, adventure, and camping for many. However, the best time to visit Kakani is September-december and March-June.

The distance from Kathmandu to Shivapuri is 12km and at the top of the Shivapuri hill, you can witness your first snowfall.
